Recovering and diverting surplus food to communities experiencing food insecurity in Los Angeles
FoodCycle LA is dedicated to transforming food recovery by diverting surplus food from landfills to communities facing food insecurity. Partnering with food retailers, they ensure that no edible food goes to waste while people go hungry, challenging the misconception that hunger stems from scarcity rather than a broken system.
Reducing food waste also has profound environmental benefits, as it can significantly decrease the need for land clearing, habitat destruction, and biodiversity loss by lowering the demand for agricultural expansion.
That’s why FoodCycle LA focuses on creating smarter solutions—using innovative technology to direct excess food efficiently where it’s needed most and empowering volunteers to expand food pickups. Together, they’re building a more sustainable and compassionate food system for everyone.

I redesigned their website to capture the unique nuances of their work, focusing on clarity and visual appeal. The goal was to create a site that felt concise and uncluttered—especially compared to the original design—while remaining visually engaging. With the client’s imagery and videography at the forefront, I paired soft typography with vibrant colours inspired by their brand palette, evoking the rich diversity of food. Organic, curvy dividers add a welcoming, natural feel, and subtle animations enhance the experience.
